Oceanside Sightseeing & Activities
You don’t have to leave Oceanside to have a great vacation, we have so many things to do in Oceanside that you may not have the time or the desire to leave. Oceanside has beach and ocean activities which include sailing, fishing, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, scuba diving, boogie boarding and much more, a mecca for a physically active vacation.
Oceanside is home to several endurance events, including Ironman California 70.3, because of its diverse terrain. We have biking and walking trails, surf and soccer competitions, and historical walking tours.
If you would prefer to take the sky, Oceanside offers the only coastal skydiving experience in Southern California and if you would rather stay in the plane you can enjoy a piece of American aviation history by taking a ride in a vintage biplane. Oceanside also offers art and culture, unique dining, shopping, adult and family events, and we are adding new experiences every day!

(15 minute walk, South of North Coast Village) At 1,942 feet, the historical Oceanside Pier is one of the longest wooden piers on the West Coast. Take a leisurely stroll out over the Pacific Ocean, watch the surfers ride a wave, fishermen catch a fish, or grab a bite to eat at the famous Ruby’s Diner located at the end of the pier. The beach at the pier includes fire pits, picnic tables, and bike rentals.
(5 minute walk, North of North Coast Village) While in the Harbor, take a few hours to experience a deep-sea sport fishing trip, whale-watching tour (seasonal), sailing lesson, or other water-oriented activity. Get a taste of being an Oceanside local by renting a boat, taking a jet-ski out for a spin, testing your balance with stand-up paddle boarding (SUP), kayaking or event snorkeling! Oceanside Harbor Village features a charming lighthouse, shopping, a coffee shop, numerous restaurants, gelato, and an old-fashioned sweet shop. The beach at Oceanside Harbor sits between two jettys, has plentiful soft sand, and features fire pits, picnic tables, and RV parking.

Mission San Luis Rey
(15 minute drive or 5.5 mile bike/walk via the San Luis Rey River Trail) Known as the “King of the Missions,” Mission San Luis Rey de Francia (c.1815), is the largest of the California Missions. The title “King of the Missions” was bestowed upon this California state treasure because of its expansiveness and architectural beauty. With such peaceful and inspirational surroundings, it is easy to visualize the everyday life of the Franciscan Friars and Native Americans who inhabited the Mission more than two centuries ago. http://www.sanluisrey.org/
Top Gun House
(15 minute walk, South of North Coast Village)
One of the biggest blockbusters of the 1980s—and a classic to this day—Top Gun starred Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis (whose character Charlie lived in the Top Gun House). Although set in San Diego and filmed around the county, Top Gun is most commonly associated with Oceanside because many of the film’s most memorable scenes were filmed in the bungalow owned by “Charlie”. The home was built in 1887 and is one of the oldest homes in Oceanside. The Top Gun House sits on a gated lot near the entrance of the pier and is awaiting its next stage of life where it will become a part of a new resort. Until that time, while the house is not open to see the inside, its exterior serves as a tribute to the movie.
(8 minute drive to the front gate)
